At the end of 2014, hot on the foot of US and European tours with The Raveonettes and St. Vincent, UK-duo Coves returned to The Cave to record their brand new EP Spectrum, out now. The 4-song EP is laced with driving riffs, propulsive beats and glacial atmospherics, spiked with Beck’s chilling lyrics of lying wolves, spurned lovers, star lights and dark nights that strike like a shard of glass to the heart.
Coves have risen quietly, but elegantly. Last year they released their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Soft Friday’, which won them firm support from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens and Nick Grimshaw, 6Music’s Lauren Laverne, Don Letts and Radcliffe and Maconie and XFM’s John Kennedy, to name but a few.
Great Lake Swimmers premiered their upcoming album, A Forest Of Arms, on the Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasyyesterday. The record, which will be released on April 21, is the group’s sixth album.
The Canadian folk outfit also announced a second leg of U.S. dates that will begin in June in the Pacific Northwest. The new run will bring the band down the West coast and across the Southern states before ending on the East coast. See below for the complete tour schedule.
As with past albums, Great Lake Swimmers recorded A Forest Of Arms in numerous untraditional locations over the span of several months, covering extensive new territory while remaining true to the group’s refined sound. The album was recorded and engineered by their long time live sound technician Justin Shane Nace and was mixed by the talented Howie Beck (Feist).
“ [Sirens is] an album of exquisitely artful songs… killer harmonies with smart lyrics.” – Guitar World
