Linying

Singaporean singer-songwriter Linying’s confessional style of writing is vivid, vulnerable, and has earned her a Bon Iver comparison by NPR’s Bob Boilen.

Before she was recognized for her own music, however, Linying first turned heads in the EDM world as a topliner, featuring on tracks with DJs Felix Jaehn and Lost Frequencies. These songs amassed over 100 million streams online and were performed at music festivals all over the world from Coachella to Lollapalooza, accidentally catapulting her into the spotlight.

Proving this was no fluke, she released her debut single Sticky Leaves soon after, which entered Spotify’s Global, US and UK Viral 50 chart – a first for an artist from Singapore and thereby landing her a spot on Spotify Asia’s 25 Most Influential Artists Under 25 list.

Her debut EP, Paris 12, was met with both critical and popular acclaim upon its release in September 2016. From tastemaker media outlets like BBC Radio 1 and Billboard, to pop-culture figures Troye Sivan and Perez Hilton, it became clear that Linying’s music appealed organically to a diverse and passionate audience.

This was mirrored in her live shows, where the versatility of her sound took her to festival stages like Summer Sonic Japan and Bigsound Music Festival Australia alongside intimate, iconic venues like The Standard in New York City and Camden Assembly in London.

5 years on, her music has continued to resonate with listeners worldwide, featuring on HBO’s Industry and Netflix’s Terrace House.
