The Submarines Announce June Tour Dates With Brett Dennen

The Submarines have announced new June tour dates supporting singer/songwriter Brett Dennen. The duo—Blake Hazard and John Dragonetti—have been on a headline tour since April 7 in support of their third album, Love Notes/Letter Bombs, which came out April 5 (Nettwerk) to rave reviews. The headline dates wrap in their home base of Los Angeles at the Troubadour on May 7; they’ll join Dennen starting June 4 in Milwaukee. What people are saying about Love Notes/Letter Bombs:
"'...the richest, most fully realized Submarines album to date, brimming over with little psychedelic flourishes...and throbbing electronic textures—but more importantly, some of the duo’s prettiest melodies..." -- Metromix (4/5 stars)

"And that’s the Submarines’ secret appeal: They specialize in the sneaky juxtaposition of dark thoughts over bright hooks. Rarely does postmillennial pop music sound so energetic and balanced in its contradictions." -- Paste

"...the music's dichotomies combine to create something beautiful and whole."
-– Nylon

"Blake Hazard and John Dragonetti make slick, easy-on-the-ears pop for both lovers going through rough patches and optimistic lonely hearts.” –- Washington Post

"...the band's technological sheen and handclap beats are still in place, but an injection of live drumming and studio experimentation provides more room for the expectedly sweet melodies to breathe." -- LA Times Pop & Hiss

"Hazard and Dragonetti have a knack for creating soundscapes that seem effortlessly constructed, and one is much more likely to float away on the album’s melodies than get bogged down in some kind of emotional exercise. That more substantial concerns are present is simply a bonus for fans of intelligently constructed pop songs."

“Expertly produced, Love Notes/Letter Bombs has all of the sparkle, hand claps, and endearing lyrics I could hope for.” – TheWildHoneyPie.com

Love Notes/Letter Bombs is the follow-up to 2008’s Honeysuckle Weeks, the album that featured stand-out track “You, Me & The Bourgeoisie,” which served as the soundtrack to Apple’s iPhone 3G television ad campaign for nearly a year. Honeysuckle Weeks was the perfect Spring album; themes of blossoming gardens, life and love were woven together by vintage pop, intricately layered electronica and old school-dub. Love Notes/Letter Bombs picks up where Honeysuckle Weeks left off, except this time John and Blake find themselves in a new house, fervidly exchanging love notes and letter bombs. “I imagined a couple in a rambling old broken-down mansion, like something from a Wes Anderson movie,” says Blake of the album title’s inspiration, “pushing flower pots off the balcony onto each other, tying a love note around a brick and throwing it through a window.”
