Run River North Debuts At #3 On Heatseekers Chart, NYC Show Sold Out, SXSW Schedule Announced

"The eleven songs that make up this irrepressible effort come across as so exuberant, so effusive, so infused with freewheeling enthusiasm, that any attempt to typecast them inevitably comes up short. Veering from a quiet pluck to resounding refrains, the band catches fire each time out…" -- No Depression

“Snappy rock and chamber folk frames their tales of their parents' dreams and struggles to find purchase in America." – Wall Street Journal

“[Run River North] has a powerful alternative, folk foundation… The overall catchiness of the music being played is shadowed by the intimacy of their lyrical and instrumental intricacies. From fiddles to pounding base drum, this band builds, explodes, and soothes from one song to the next.” --
LA Record (live review)

LA-based sextet Run River North have much to celebrate this week. Their self-titled debut album (released February 25) landed on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart at #3, they played an album release show on March 3 to a sold-out crowd at LA’s famed Troubadour, and they have officially sold-out their upcoming New York City show at Rockwood Music Hall on April 10. Tonight (March 6), Run River North will appear Live At Amoeba in Hollywood, CA at 6pm.

Next week, Run River North head to SXSW, where they’ll play the Grammy® Museum Homegrown Showcase, the ASCAP Showcase at The Driskill, the Naked Grape Music Lounge and the Nettwerk Music Official Day Party (rsvp). The band will then join the Goo Goo Dolls on their Spring acoustic tour, and play their own headline shows in various markets along the way, including Boston, New York, DC, Atlanta and Philadelphia. All tour dates, including SXSW, are listed below.

Recorded with renowned record producer Phil Ek (Band Of Horses, Fleet Foxes, Built To Spill, The Shins), Run River North burgeons with richly layered harmonies, dynamic instrumentation and evocative storytelling. The album deals with themes of hope, struggle and identity – a result of all band members coming from families who moved to Southern California from Asia.

Run River North is Alex Hwang (lead vocals, guitars), Daniel Chae (vocals, strings), Jennifer Rim (strings), Joe Chun (bass, vocals), John Chong (drums, vocals) and Sally Kang (vocals, keyboards). The band was recently featured in the Wall Street Journal, and on Last Call With Carson Daly, NPR Weekend Edition, PBS Artbound and Lexus: Music Uncovered, a CBS pre-Grammy special exploring Los Angeles hot spots and up and coming bands. They also premiered their first official music video for lead single “Fight To Keep” on TeamCoco, the official website of Conan.

Prior to joining Nettwerk and with only a 6-song demo, the band had already garnered a Jimmy Kimmel Live! performance, been shortlisted at Cannes Film Festival, performed at the Grammy Museum for its members and garnered over 1.5 million YouTube views.
