fun. Rules 2012! "We Are Young (Feat. Janelle Monáe)" Is Top Selling Track Of The Year So Far!
fun. has achieved yet another milestone with their #1 breakthrough hit, “We Are Young (Feat. Janelle Monáe).” The single has just been confirmed as the top-selling track of 2012 thus far and is nearing 3 million in sales.
“We Are Young” – which can also be found on the band’s smash Fueled By Ramen debut album, Some Nights – continues to own the #1 spot on Billboard’s “Hot 100,” where it remains for the fifth consecutive week. What’s more, the track spent six weeks atop the “Top Digital Songs” chart while also dominating Billboard’s new “Top On-Demand Songs” chart. “We Are Young” is now in its fourth week atop the recently launched chart, which measures on-demand play requests and plays from unlimited listener-controlled radio channels.
As if that weren’t enough, “We Are Young” is the number one song in audience at both Modern Rock radio and Mainstream Top 40 radio. A multi-format radio sensation, the track is currently #2 on the “Top Rock Songs” ranking, as well as #4 on the “Top Pop Songs” chart.
fun. – who recently adorned the cover of Billboard – will celebrate the blockbuster success of “We Are Young” with an eagerly awaited performance on CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman, slated for April 23rd (check local listings). The appearance follows recent visits to TBS’ Conan and VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live.
The NYC-based band is currently in the midst of a major headline tour, with most dates already long sold out. The trek – which includes a sold-out headline date at the famed Barfly in London on May 14th – will culminate with a pair of instant hometown sell-outs at New York City’s Terminal 5 on June 16th and 17th. In honor of Record Store Day on April 21st, the band will release The Ghost That You Are To Me, a 10-inch gear shaped gold picture disc limited to 2000 copies and available only through independent retailers. The release will feature acoustic versions of “We Are Young (Feat. Janelle Monáe)” and “Carry On” as well both an acoustic version and the album version of “Why Am I The One.”
Having earned widespread acclaim with their 2009 debut album, Aim and Ignite, fun. decided to raise the stakes with Some Nights by teaming with noted producer Jeff Bhasker (Kanye West, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Drake). The band and Bhasker have worked to evolve the idiosyncratic fun. sound by marrying their robust melodies with elements of hip-hop.
Released February 21st, Some Nights entered Billboard’s “Top Current Albums” chart at #2 while also making a top 3 entry onto the Billboard 200. In addition to its spectacular popular success, the album has also earned ecstatic critical praise, with Rolling Stone applauding its blend of “classic bubble-pop tunefulness with rococo rock & roll” as well as singer Nate Ruess’ “huge voice, all snarl and Broadway panache.” Spin hailed the album’s “combination of record-collector bravado and lyrical vulnerability,” singling out “the towering, thrilling ‘One Foot’” and “the do-the-robot opening-to-the-car-with-the-windows-down anthem ‘It Gets Better.’” Perhaps AbsolutePunk.net summed it up best in its 9.5-out-of-10 rave: Some Nights is “the bold, adventurous and grandiose album that the Top 40 charts needs right now.”
