Frazey Ford Announces Fall Tour, Including Dates With Hiss Golden Messenger

“[Indian Ocean] fuses patiently simmering Southern soul grooves with uncommonly intelligent songwriting.” — Philadelphia Inquirer

“That's Ford's genius — finding the ways opposing forces complement each other. She's got the glitter to balance her grit, and exactly enough sully in her sweet.”— NPR Music

“An album that transcends its influence…she stands centre of this LP like a quiet testifying force.”  — Mojo (4 Stars)

Vancouver’s Frazey Ford will return to the U.S. for a November run of east coast dates, including a handful of support slots with Hiss Golden Messenger. The tour kicks off November 10 in Cambridge, MA at Club Passim. All dates are listed below.

On the heels of her critically-lauded album Indian Ocean, Frazey recently caught the viral attention of everyone from NPR Music to Buzzfeed to Bitch with her feisty music video for stand-out album track “Done,” which not only showcased her dance moves and sassy strut, but also Frazey’s fabulous jumpsuit collection. Watch it above.

The follow up to 2010’s critically acclaimed Obadiah, Indian Ocean is a lush album filled with songs about pain and dealing with tough truths, but also about love, contrition and being bold. Part of what gives this album its gilded edge is the work of Al Green’s band, The Hi Rhythm Section (Teenie, LeRoy and Charles Hodges), the iconic architects of the famous singer's instrumental sound. Ford is the beneficiary of their almighty talents, the trio accentuating her sensual and opulent vocals with deep-bottomed bass, subtle backbeats, and airy flights of organ. They're joined by the golden horn arrangements and the undulating tides of Debra Jean Creelman and Caroline Ballhorn's backing vocals that kick off the restless but hopeful album opener, "September Fields."  John Raham, Frazey’s creative partner and co-producer, brings his considerable talents helping to create the album’s delicate musical balance.  Indian Ocean was recorded, mixed and mastered between Memphis’s historic Royal Studios and Vancouver’s Afterlife Studios.
