Nettwerk To Release Titles From Dizzy Gillespie, Lightnin' Hopkins, Chet Baker & Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee

On March 1990, The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club burned down.  The closest fire station was 20 minutes away. The club was home to some of the biggest names in the worlds of jazz and blues - B.B. King, Nina Simone, Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Big Mama Thornton, Sarah Vaughan, Art Blakey, Willie Dixon, Taj Mahal, Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie, to name a few. In the fire, hundreds of priceless live recordings were lost forever, with the exception of a few that had been stored away in an old defunct freezer.

This Friday (July 29), Nettwerk Jazz & Blues and Justin Time Records will release Lightnin’s Boogie – Live At The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club from Sam ‘Lightnin’ Hopkins.  This follows April’s release of Muddy Waters’ Hoochie Coochie Man – Live At The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club and comes ahead of the Record Store Day's Black Friday exclusive release of Chet Baker’s Love For Sale - Live At The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club (November 25). All recordings are available on vinyl for the first time with beautifully restored collectable artwork. More on each release can be found below.

Later this year, Nettwerk and Justin Time will also release recordings from Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee and a previously unreleased album from Dizzy Gillespie as part of the Justin Time Essentials Collection.  Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.

Lightnin’ Hopkins – Lightnin’ Boogie – Live at The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club (Out July 29)

Lightnin’ Hopkins is one of the greatest blues guitarists and singers of all time and, according to the New York Times, “perhaps the greatest single influence on rock guitar players."  On June 23, 1977, Sam ‘Lightnin’ Hopkins walked onto a small stage in a smoke & whisky filled club in Montreal and preceded to lay down arguably his last great performance before his death 5 years later.  Lightnin’s Boogie – Live at The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club - remastered and available on vinyl for the first time – reveals a master blues man still in full control of his many talents and working the crowd to “Get Up Off O’ Yo’.”

Chet Baker – Love For Sale - Live At The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club (Out November 25)

Love for Sale - Live At The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club – recorded live at Montreal’s Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club in 1978 and available on vinyl for the first time, is an unexpurgated glimpse into the musical reality of Chet Baker’s last years; a life on the move from club to club across North America and Europe. The music was often loose and ragged. But there's a solo on “Snowbound” that is the kind of Baker moment you wait for. It's fragile threads of luminous melody, discovered by a series of existential choices so slow they sometimes almost stop.
