Thom Russo
Subtitle
One of the most prolific music producers, mixers and engineers in the Industry, Grammy Award winning Thom Russo has worked with numerous successful artists over the past two decades. Thom is unique in that he has been able to jump back and forth between both English and Spanish language projects, finding success in both genres and all over the globe. He began his career engineering mostly R&B albums for the likes of Michael Jackson, Babyface, Destiny’s Child, Paula Abdul, and New Edition. But in 1997 when Russo engineered the Eric Clapton/Babyface track “Change The World,” his career took a new direction. He won a Grammy Award for Record of The Year for his work on that track and soon found himself doing more work in the rock genre. Russo has since worked with important and diverse artists such as Audioslave, System of A Down, Joe Strummer, Johnny Cash, Serj Tankian, Lili Hayden and the incomparable Macy Gray. Russo’s Latin work is extensive, having engineered and mixed albums for Latin superstar Juanes which have lead to multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations and awards. He’s also produced or mixed records for the enourmously successful Mana and others such as Kinky, Andrea Echeveri, Aterciopelados, Alejandro Sanz and La Ley. Russo was asked about memorable experiences in his music career, and responded with, “I have to say that my most memorable experiences are certainly not ones that are related to issues I may be facing; they're more about the incredible honor of working and being in the presence of amazing musicians and artists. From hearing Eric Clapton work up a guitar part, to Johnny Cash singing a vocal take, to Tom Morello figuring out an approach to a guitar solo -- these are the most memorable experiences, and the ones that make you realize that after all the tech talk, all the tweaking, and all the adjusting, the only thing that really matters is the music”(vintagemicrophone.com).
