Victor Van Vugt
Subtitle
Victor Van Vugt is an award winning music producer, mixer and engineer. A native Australian who is now based in New York, Victor has had a long association with the careers of both Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and Beth Orton. Victor has made his reputation by working with artists that don’t necessarily tread the straight and narrow. Rather he gravitates towards interesting, even eclectic, rock artists who move to push the boundaries of what is considered mainstream music. That is clearly evident in his work with the aforementioned Nick Cave and Beth Orton, as well as artists like Chrissie Hynde, The Knocks, Gorgol Bordello, Luna, Athlete, Sarah Blasko, and PJ Harvey.
This tendency to lean towards more cutting edge artists has lead to major success for Van Vugt. The Nick Cave & Kylie Minogue duet, "Where The Wild Roses Grow", produced by Van Vugt, won the ARIA Award for Song Of The Year in Australia in 1996; and the Athlete album Vehicles & Animals, produced, mixed & engineered by Van Vugt was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2003.
Victor resides in New York where he has a mix and overdub studio of his own, but he often finds himself working in London and back in his native Australia. But no matter where he is working, Victor’s passion for forging new paths in contemporary music never changes.
